Messi reaches deal to purchase Spanish club Eldense ahead of Chicago clash

Lionel Messi has reached an agreement in principle to acquire Spanish second-division club CD Eldense. The Spanish club confirmed on Wednesday that the Inter Miami forward is close to purchasing 100% of the shares held by majority shareholder TH Soluciones Group S.A.S. 12

The transaction remains subject to a formal due diligence review, legal and contractual documentation, and mandatory clearance from Spain's High Council for Sports (CSD). The club stated that no fixed completion date has been set, though Spanish reports project the final paperwork could wrap up in the coming days. 13

The proposed takeover represents Messi's first venture into Spain's professional league structure. Messi expanded his football investment portfolio in April 2026 by acquiring fifth-tier Catalan side UE Cornellà. Eldense, founded in 1921 and based in Elda in the province of Alicante, currently sits 20th in the 22-team Segunda División standings. 1
